Access to Advanced Training

Before being allowed to drive a vehicle unaccompanied, we are required to undergo training on both the theory (stopping distances, speed restrictions, road signs, etc.) and practice (actually handling a car) of driving, as well as passing a number of tests.

What's in a Good, Better, BEST Practice?

Posted by David Den Boer on Tue, Feb 03, 2015 @ 12:02 PM

Winston Churchill’s friend once said of him, “Winston is a man of simple tastes, he is always prepared to put up with the best of everything.” The desire for the best is something everyone covets, but this aspiration becomes problematic when “best” cannot readily be defined. So how would you know if you received the best?

Which SAP EPM Event is Right for You?

Posted by David Den Boer on Tue, Jan 27, 2015 @ 10:01 AM

I often get asked “which are the ‘good’ events to go to for EPM related content?” Instead of answering in email, or on the phone, I want to make a more thorough response available for posterity.

First, let’s ask: what are attendees’ expectations when going to an event? These fall into two categories, with differing needs. One group is looking to make some sort of purchase decision, evaluating either software solutions or a new service provider. The other group has already made a purchase decision to own the software, and they are looking to update their knowledge of the product roadmap, and hear customer and partner stories about upgrades, process improvements, and other experiences that can benefit them. There are numerous events to choose from, and knowing which events are appropriate for each group is a good way to maximize the return on investment for attendee fee and travel dollars… and more importantly, your time.

The Road to Continuous Improvement is Paved One Good Idea at a Time

Posted by Rick Bryant on Tue, Nov 25, 2014 @ 09:11 AM

In one of my previous blogs, “Where do you go to find answers to your BPC questions?” I talked about the how most customers don't know where to find information on BPC. In addition to my own company's website, I pointed to a blog written by a colleague that does a good job of highlighting the various sources of BPC information.  Over the intervening months we've been working on some pretty exciting stuff here at Column5 that I think will do great things for BPC and the greater EPM community.

EPM Events are a Big Part of Success Regimen

Posted by David Den Boer on Mon, Nov 17, 2014 @ 10:11 AM

It is said that whether you are a pessimist or an optimist will determine how far you go in life.  I believe it is those who look up, aiming for a destination beyond the horizon, that have the best chance for success.  I’ve observed that this same categorization applies to EPM customers.

If you think an Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) solution is something you implement once and forget about, then don’t bother reading this article.  You’re probably the kind of user to focus on minimizing cost of ownership vs. maximizing returns.  If so, then this is not for you.
