1. Landscape Design
I have been working with the BPC product since its inception in 2000. I am always surprised when clients have skipped or are not interested in what we refer to as a System Landscape Design. We take the functional design and/or what you are currently doing in the product to properly size the servers and client machines for the future use of BPC. If you skip this step, I believe there is no way you will get good performance!

Winston Churchill’s friend once said of him, “Winston is a man of simple tastes, he is always prepared to put up with the best of everything.” The desire for the best is something everyone covets, but this aspiration becomes problematic when “best” cannot readily be defined. So how would you know if you received the best?

Performance of a system is crucial to every implementation. System monitoring and administration help towards efficiently running a SAP system. Performing some proactive monitoring and configuration can help in avoiding SAP system issues. Let’s talk about a few approaches to troubleshoot performance issues while working on SAP BPC 10.0 for NetWeaver system.

The nature of projects and project management is change. Often times, the change brought about by commissioning a project is overlooked, as the focus is placed on the technology. Just as frequently, the need to assess and address the people-side of the project is initiated separately and often too late in the project lifecycle. Most projects are managed using a methodology based on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), which focuses on management of scope change and the potential impact to budget, timeline, or resource allocation. However, PMBOK does not address the human aspects delivered through the project, or how to successfully identify, plan for, and mitigate resistance to the change.

“What is your BPC upgrade strategy?” or “what is the best plan to migrate BPC?” are the most common questions I am asked by clients looking to upgrade to the latest version of SAP BPC. Even though clients' landscapes come in all shapes and sizes, the overall strategy for a BPC upgrade is not very different from one client to the next.

Remember the great 1996 classic flick, Jerry Maguire? Do you recall that moment early in the movie when Tom Cruise’s character writes his memo before he got whacked? His coworkers clapped and cheered. They did so because they believed in what he said. Then corporate reality set in and they had to get back to work… back to business as usual! So did Bob “Business as Usual” Sugar win in the end?
Throughout the movie many characters call the memo a “Mission Statement”. Well, folks, after 20 years I have had it! I am writing my “memo” in this blog. While I am not staying up late and photocopying my “memo” to be hand placed on my colleague’s seats, I hope this has a (somewhat) similar effect.

This is a 100% true story. The names have been altered to protect the innocent (and the guilty)!
Everyone likes a great story. What makes a story great is a plot, a villain, and a hero. What makes this particular story more interesting is that it is a business story. It also one that clients keep asking me to repeat to their teams, peers and even their executive staff.

The Excel Add-In reporting tool of EPM 10 combines the features of Excel with EPM functionality. A feature within Excel that is sometimes useful to meet more advanced reporting needs is macros programmed using Visual Basic (VBA). This can achieve features that are not achievable through EPM 10 functionality.
